What is BMR?

BMR stands for Basal Metabolic Rate: the energy your body uses at complete rest to run essentials like breathing, circulation, and keeping your cells working. It’s typically the largest share of the calories you burn each day — before any activity is added.

BMR vs. TDEE

BMR is rest only. Add your daily movement and exercise on top and you get your TDEE — the total you actually burn. That TDEE is what you compare your food intake against to lose, maintain, or gain.

From numbers to a habit

BMR and TDEE tell you the targets. Sticking to them is the real work — and it’s why people quit tracking apps. MacroThis removes the friction: you just say what you ate, and it handles the calories and macros for you, so the numbers actually stay relevant day to day.

These calculators provide general estimates using standard formulas (Mifflin-St Jeor) and common defaults. They are not medical, dietetic, or fitness advice. For guidance specific to you, talk to a doctor or registered dietitian.
